FABRICA // From tripod to Table
Competition proposal - Porada International Design Award 2017
A skeleton as a support structure.
Like a skeleton, Fabrica supports our daily life. The table is, along with the chair, a primordial object. Quoting Sottsass "it took thousands of years to invent a wall all straight", so the ground, the stone, a flat surface rather than any other surfaces, spent thousands of years to become a table. The table is that kind of object where we perform many of our daily rituals, on the table we eat, on the table we work, around a table we make decisions and meet people. A table defines a place, it is a protagonist of epochal turning points and defines cultures and changes.
The inspiration came from the role that the table represents and therefore from the dowry that the object brings with itself.
That's why Fabrica is a trastle.

With Fabrica I wanted to bring on top the shape and concept of the trestle. It has an important feature, the ability to adapt and reinvent itself, the principle of resilience. In fact it is able to resist changes. I think that nowadays these skills are very important, essential and enviable.
Today and tomorrow there will be more and more demand for a greater spirit of adaptation, for us as well as for our objects, companions of our history.
That's why I choose the wood as main material. It is like our skin, it scratches with time, rightly getting into our emotional sphere and becoming the material that par excellence is able to express the concept of resilience.

The concept is characterized by a tripod structure in solid walnut canaletta wood that supports a tempered glass top (12mm thick).
The tripod alone can become a console but when it is used in pairs it becomes the base for a table. The tripod is that kind of shape that alone as in group gives the best of itself, is an iconic shape. By taking advantage of the technical and formal skills that Porada represents, Fabrica brings out the tripod shape, highlighting a nerve on the central leg, which like the reinforces for the organic shapes, gives character to the object.
The suggestion comes directly from Nature, Mother and Queen of our inspirations.
